The Union Democrat had a good article last month about the ongoing efforts to deal with tree mortality in California. Multiple agencies, organizations and private entities are collaborating to help deal with this epidemic.

  • FIRE NOTICE: Serpa Fire causes evacuations in Coarsegold and delays on Highway 41. Read the Sierra Star’s article for further details. Sierra News Online has a good list of the areas where the evacuation order still remains in place, and where it has been lifted (UPDATE: the evacuation orders have been lifted everywhere).
  • Drone operator arrested for flying over wildfire. While a lot of the advice on this site relates to protecting your home from wildfire, it should go without saying that getting in the way of firefighters is not in any way firewise. Be safe and smart out there.

  • Great article from Sierra News Online about the work of Firewise® and Firewise® Madera County Coordinator Roger Maybee’s efforts to inform and support the community.
  • California’s tree mortality task force continues to secure funds for Madera and five other counties in the state, to ensure they have the proper resources to deal with this ongoing epidemic.
